Paul is a Quantity Surveyor, board director and consultant with over 30 years’ construction industry experience undertaking senior leadership roles in commercial and project management capacities. He also has previous experience as a member of the board of directors and owner in main contracting. Since 2005 Paul has worked as a consultant advising clients representing all parties of construction contracts: employers, contractors and sub-contractors, which enables him to take a more holistic view in construction disputes. His wealth of project experience includes major new build and refurbishment schemes in the commercial, energy-to-waste, healthcare, education, residential, hotel, retail, heritage, infrastructure, rail and aviation sectors up to £400m in value.
In his time as a main board director in a rapidly expanding business with a ten year ten-fold growth plan he was tasked by the board to facilitate this expansion by opening a regional office, taking this from inception, through business planning to successful leasing, opening, recruiting for and running of the regional office whilst exceeding profit targets.
Skilled in all aspects of contract commercial and contractual management services, Paul has been regularly appointed by contractors and employers to advise on contract or quantum matters on high value disputes. Paul also regularly undertakes written advocacy roles acting as party representative on behalf of contractor and developer clients in high value and complex adjudications and in preparation for litigation.
During his career Paul has accrued extensive expertise and knowledge in matters relating to contracts and quantum, including the valuation of large variation accounts as well as producing and assessing extensive extensions of time, loss and expense, acceleration and disruption claims. He also has experience of leading large insurance claims to successful outcomes.
Paul has also delivered seminars on commercial aspects of business planning and reporting and contract administration.
He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) and the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI), a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) as well as a member of the Society of Construction Law. He has an LLM in Construction Law and Arbitration and has successfully completed the RICS accredited Advanced Expert Witness training (APAEWE).
